DISCOVER: Ivy Mode and her single, 'Money Can't Buy'
Sarah Godard, now more commonly known as Ivy Mode, is a 21-year-old Belgian artist with Filipino roots. Fans of the Belgian version of The Voice may already be familiar with the promising popstrel, as she enchanted the coaches and audience in 2013. Not only was she one of the eight last contestants, her ‘A Team’ audition reached number nine in the national charts.
Inspired by artists such as Banks, Nick Murphy (fka Chet Faker) and James Blake, since then, Ivy Mode has been honing her craft and working on original material. She found a home in W!G Music, who encouraged her to express herself freely and build her sound.
Teaming up with producer James Lowland, she penned ‘Money Can’t Buy’, a perfect slice of electronic RnB. The track shows off her warm vocals which hit home the feeling of regret that runs throughout.
Speaking about the track, Ivy Mode said: “‘Money Can’t Buy’ is about putting your career first, sacrificing a serious relationship for it and then later regretting it. Your regret comes too late, after you realise you blew your chance. Now you’re left with a feeling of emptiness because you’d rather share your success with the one you love.”
‘Money Can’t Buy’ has already garnered support through numerous playlists. It’s been featured in Spotify’s Fresh Finds Hiptronix as well as the H&M In Store Music playlist.
Ivy Mode has also performed some incredible covers this year. Supported by MNM, a Belgian national radio, she gave a cover of Red Hot Chili Peppers’ ‘Californication”, which has over 20,000 views on Facebook.
Whilst Ivy Mode already has a strong backing in her homeland, the songstress is about to breakthrough worldwide. Her slick sound is infectious, and we just can’t wait to hear more from her in the future.
